How To Properly Wash, Condition And Dry Your Hair For Beautiful Tresses

Is it possible that you could have been washing your hair the wrong way all these years? Do you actually think about what you’re doing when shampooing? Most of us don’t, we just scrub and soap and rinse, but we must remember that each individual hair is delicate and can easily break if we’re tough on it which causes broken ends.

So, what is the right way of washing the hair?
Start out by combing or de-tangling your hair before you get it wet, this way any tangles will not worsen. Next rinse in warm water to help open the cuticles of the hair and to rinse of yesterday’s dirt and grime. Using your fingertips,  gently stroke your hair to get rid of any leftover styling aids.

Squeeze your shampoo into the palm of your hand and rub your hands together and apply shampoo to your roots and scalp. Don’t apply the shampoo directly to your hair ends as this will only help to split and weaken them. Another thing that people with long hair do, is smoosh all their hair together on top of their head. This is another no-no. It will only help in getting it tangled.

After gently massaging your scalp with shampoo, rinse your hair. Ideally, you should shampoo once again as the first shampoo was to get off the dirt, and the second is meant to treat the hair. As a final rinse, if you’re up to it, rinse in cool water to help close your hair cuticles.

Just squeeze the excess water out of your hair, don’t twist it or pull at it as this is the time when your hair is the most delicate. Next apply a dab of conditioner, don’t forget the hairline, nape of neck and your hair tips. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave on for 5 to 10 minutes. Now rinse your hair again thoroughly.

Obviously, you may not have enough time to do this every morning, but try to take some time out for yourself as often as possible because great hair just doesn’t happen on its own (unless your seven!)

Air drying takes so much longer to dry that it is usually used mostly for people with short or curly or low maintenance hair. It is better for the hair since there is no heat involved that will dry out your hair. Do not however, rub your hair with a towel. Your hair is very delicate while wet and toweling it will cause splits and breaks. Instead of rubbing, blot with a towel and fluff with your fingers.

Blow drying is fast and convenient and also adds volume to your hair but it dries it out and can make it brittle.

If you choose to blow dry, follow these steps; blot most of the water out first and keep the dryer at least 6 inches from your hair while moving it around your head constantly. If you bend forward and hang your hair down and blow dry from underneath you’ll help protect the outside strands of your which are the most visible. Stop blow drying while your hair is still slightly damp.

Ultimately it is your lifestyle that dictates your hair care method, but whichever methods you choose, just remember that your hair is fragile, so be kind to it
